Meet CancerLINC's New Employee
Allison Miessler
What is your role at CancerLINC?
Client Services Coordinator

What do you find rewarding about working here?
I am someone who loves to connect people to resources/networks, and that is exactly what CancerLINC does. This is a vital need for those in need of services and I am very excited to get to be that connector for clients.

What led you to this career?
I have a master's degree in social work with a concentration in public policy and administration  I picked this concentration because I wanted to find a way to make a change at the “systems” level in order to help those on the “individual level." After spending the last 4 years working in the government sector, I was not able to interact and help others as much as I would have liked. Over the years in public service, I have seen firsthand the amount of red tape that is involved for people in need and are unable to find the resources that are out there. CancerLINC is a one of a kind organization that cuts out that red tape and does the heavy lifting for clients in relation to financial and legal services. I feel that this unique organization not only provides much-needed support but also a peace of mind while clients deal with the many factors that impact their lives after being diagnosed with cancer.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
I would love to be a sleep expert for children as I have a night owl of a child!

What hobbies / other interests do you have?
I am very passionate about maternal/postpartum health and am an active advocate for changes/support for pregnant and new moms with a few organizations. I love to spend time with my family, and we absolutely love visiting and spending time in the Virgin Islands (St. John), the Outer Banks, and Lake Anna.

Board Member Spotlight
Janet Abraham

Can you tell me a little about your service on the board and what your position is responsible for?
I am serving my second term for this amazing organization. I serve on the Client Services Committee under the expert leadership of Dr. Mary Helen Hackney. The Committee is responsible for reviewing all client services criteria, including eligibility for services, the scope of services, and making sure that we are reaching all of the clients that meet our criteria and can benefit from CancerLINC's support. I also assist with individual fundraising with the corporate community related to some of our signature events, such as our Beyond Bag event.
