January/February 2021

Volunteer Spotlight: Jervetta Burns

How/when did you first get involved with CancerLINC?

I went through cancer support group training at the Cancer Treatment Center of Virginia and brought the training to my church at the time (Richmond Community Church). Soon afterward,  I learned about CancerLINC’s Community Breakfast in 2019, where I linked up with Chris Williams, with whom I volunteered at Make-A-Wish. It was great timing. I was able to talk about what my team does and the valuable resources that we could provide.

Attorney and Financial Advisors Needed

What We Do and How You Can Help

We partner with local attorneys and financial advisors to provide legal assistance and financial counseling for those patients who need help but can’t afford these services. Most of our clients meet federal guidelines for low-income households, and we ask our volunteer professionals to provide services to these clients at no charge. Clients who are above the income guidelines are advised that they will need to discuss fees with the attorney/advisor.
You can help cancer patients by joining our active network of volunteer attorneys and financial advisors who advocate for them. Volunteers are encouraged to take two cases a year.
Join us to make a difference in someone’s life.
