James and Debra Roberts didn't expect a stomach ache to turn into a cancer diagnosis.

Attorney's Weekend Visit
Makes Lasting Difference for Local Couple

Despite being married for 18 years, neither Debra Roberts nor her husband, James E. Roberts III, had a will.

In March, when Mr. Roberts developed a stomach ache that lasted two weeks, he was admitted to the hospital.  The Roberts never expected that the pain would lead to a Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer diagnosis.

While he was undergoing tests, Mrs. Roberts began searching for information that could help educate the couple about his diagnosis.  She came across a brochure for CancerLINC in the cancer consultation room at Regional Memorial Hospital and read about the legal assistance and financial advising services that CancerLINC provides to cancer patients and their families.

When Mr. Roberts was released, the couple decided to call CancerLINC  so they could plan for the future in light of the diagnosis.  They were glad they did. Read more.

Randy Laumer and Buddy Baskette named CancerLINC Corporate Cornhole Challenge Champions.

CancerLINC Crowns Cornhole Champions

Congratulations to CancerLINC Corporate Cornhole Challenge Champions Randy Laumer and Buddy Baskette of Mid Atlantic Mechanical.  Their team, Better Bring 4, won the inaugural cornhole tournament held May 18 at Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center. Buddy and Randy played in honor of Buddy's mother, Glenda Jones, who lost her battle with breast cancer when he was 19.

The Cornhole Challenge was a terrific first-time event. We had 70 people attend and 16 teams participate in the tournament. Everyone who attended had a great time and enjoyed a beautiful day.  The event raised $12,000.  Planning has begun for next year's tournament, which is expected to draw more sponsors, teams and attendees.  Visit our photo gallery to check out the fun!

CancerLINC Receives Generous
Gift from Anonymous Donor

CancerLINC would like to thank a generous local foundation for renewing its giving with a $15,000 donation for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 and a pledge of $10,000 for the coming fiscal year.  "We are very grateful for the continued support and partnership of this foundation.  This foundation has demonstrated an ongoing generous commitment to CancerLINC and to the cancer patients we serve," said Executive Director Chris Williams.  CancerLINC will use $10,000 for general support of the organization, and the remaining $5,000 has been designated to defray the costs associated with CancerLINC's move to a new location.

CancerLINC moves to Downtown Richmond.

We're Moving! Come Visit Us!

CancerLINC is moving to a new location on June 3 and hosting an open house on June 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Our new address is 200 South 3rd Street, Richmond, VA  23219.

"CancerLINC is moving from its long-time home at Johnston Willis Hospital because the hospital is planning to build a new modern medical office building on the site where our current office is located," said Executive Director Chris Williams. "This move provides us the opportunity to be more centrally located to our medical provider partners, from which we receive the majority of our patient referrals," Williams added. Our office building is now located at the corner of Canal and Third Streets and shared by several other well-established, local nonprofits that are also making a difference in the RVA community.  Add the open house to your calendar and stop by to see us!
